We begin the journey with emails leading up to the retreat, preparing you for your experience. Before you sign up for the quest, you call Janet to meet, set expectations, and clarify the process.
We gather on Thursday afternoon, have dinner together, and begin with an evening ceremony. Adding the Toltec Mitote to the Quest on Friday, day and night, enhances higher energy, clarity, and consciousness. By the time you come to your silent time on Saturday morning, you are ready to be present for the gifts of nature and spirit.
Our Quest time in our sacred spot in nature is from Sunrise to Sunset on Saturday. On Sunday morning, we are gently rebirthed into ourselves through another ceremony and have space to begin processing and integrating before we rejoin the world as we head home.

The main reason you go on a Vision Quest is to stop the world so you can find yourself. Without interference, responsibilities, and the roles and rules of who you think you are, space opens up to receive. Vision comes in the subtle experiences as you release attachments and see and feel the truth. The deep inner self, the soul, has an opportunity to speak and be heard.
We enjoy the gift of letting go of daily routines and comforts to experience living in a private retreat space in a natural setting, where there is little to no interference from the world, which is always quite enlightening.
We become present for the big and the little things in our lives. Nature nurtures us and reveals beauty and wonder in every moment. In our sacred time, we remember who we are and listen and learn more clearly.
Significant changes are often made before or after the Quest, as you are about to go through a new phase or rite of passage, or you are just ready to go deeper on your journey and learn more.
A Mitote Ceremony is the purification of us on all levels, breaking up stuck patterns and allowing visions to come to us in the lucid state. The Gayatri Mantra is chanted throughout the ceremony by the smaller group, which rotates around the central fire. Either you are chanting or dreaming on the outside of the circle in this experience, allowing your energy to rise and for profound cleansing, visions, and inner movement.
On your Quest Day. In your sacred spot in nature, you realize just how long an hour or twenty-four hours are in a day. This new perspective helps us make better use of our time at home. We bring back wisdom, a new perspective, and increased energy.

Our Sacred Space at Art Farm Recording
We enjoy walks in the woods, bonfires at night, a star-filled sky, an outdoor soaking tub, visiting horses, and a nature-spirit-filled property. Janet also leads us through advanced Shamanic practices.
Art Farm is a farm converted to a retreat space in the Hudson Valley in the Catskill Mountains, west of New Paltz, off the NY Thruway and Route 209. Janet rents the cabins and acres of property for privacy. We have a main cabin and smaller cabins, each equipped with linens for sleeping and working together. A pine forest campground has a flush toilet and an outdoor stone-lined hot shower for tent campers. Your choice of accommodations.
We each provide our food and have an ample, fully equipped modern kitchen, along with indoor and outdoor seating options. It is suggested that we prepare something simple to make the most of our time.

PREPARATION FOR THE QUEST DURING THE RETREAT
Shamanic practices and tools prepare us for our group’s quest time. The entire weekend is a ceremony that continues to gently unfold and allows you to reach higher states of consciousness naturally, without drugs. Each person will have a safe place, close enough and far enough away from others, to have their own private experience. We will work together for one day in the community to prepare for our solitude and silence. After we return to the main camp, we gather to share our experiences and prepare to re-enter the world.
Janet StraightArrow has led many of these ceremonies over the years. The Mitote is a favorite among her students. You can camp in tents, under the stars, or in a comfortable main cabin or smaller cabins. We have enjoyed retreats in this space for eight years.
This four-day retreat, from Thursday to Sunday, allows a deep process and experience. Significant healing and becoming continue long after the Quest.

From Janet: When I attended my first Vision Quest in 1997, I knew this was an essential part of my calling to offer to others. For twenty-six years, I have been holding sacred space for participants in a variety of locations. We create wonder-filled experiences as I guide you on your inner journey. As a Shaman, I begin building the container as soon as it is scheduled. Offering this retreat takes a tremendous amount of my energy and time from the time I offer it to the public to many weeks after we come home. Dedicated to helping people become who they truly are is always an honor. I find it rewarding to witness participants leave for home feeling empowered, clear, and excited about their next phase of life. The Mitote Ceremony is part of Don Miguel Ruiz’s lineage. I studied with one of his apprentice teachers for 2 years and have been leading this powerful, transformative ceremony at various retreats at least once a year since 2002.
